“Piano Variations” Mvt 1., Webern, 1937

Instrumentation: piano

Style: 12 Tone

The work starts of very slow and quite. To an untrained ear, this music seems quite random and, but is very formulaic. There are big intervals between the notes and many ritardandos. Though the rhythm is slow throughout, it does speed up in some parts of the music.

Overall, a basic 12 tone composition that is well made but not the appealing to large mainstream audiences.
